This was another one of those middle-of-the-night ideas that just won’t let you go until you make them real.
It was a few days before the 4th of July, and my friend Reuben called to ask if I wanted to ride pennyfarthings in a local parade. Of course, I said yes. Then the next night, somewhere around 2 AM, I woke up thinking “I have to build a giant Abraham Lincoln mask.”
It was a super-tight time crunch to get everything done in time for the parade, but it was totally worth it. Kids were freaking out as I would ride past and give “Presidential high-fives”. I even made the front page of the newspaper the next day. Aren’t you proud, Ma?
